360 Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academy is located at
11931 W. Bluemound Rd.

JiuJitsuSweep:
Scott, first of all congratulations on the recent birth of your twins, i understand having children can be very time consuming and we appreciate you taking the time out of your busy schedule to talk with us.

Scott, you are currently ranked as  the #1 grappler in the state of Wisconsin and were voted 2008 grappler of the year according to Wisconsin Combat Sports, with all of your martial arts experience we would like to know, Where did you 1st learn about Jiu Jitsu?

Scott Huston:

I was seventeen years old when the first UFC came about.  My dad and I were huge boxing fans and you would see kickboxing and other combat sports advertisements from time to time. I guess this is when my Dad came across the UFC.  He was telling me all about it and we starting watching it from there.

Watching Royce win those events was unbelievable and I fell in love with BJJ from that point on. I lived in Illinois at the time so obviously there were no Jiu Jitsu schools. I joined the Marine Corps in 1997 and got stationed in San Diego in 2001. Every day driving home from the base I would see a BJJ sign that said, “Free Intro”.  It still took me a year to finally go in and try it. I was hooked instantly and have not looked back since.

JiuJitsuSweep:

Wow! That sounds like an amazing experience, very grass roots from when the first Ultimate Fighting Championship came out . It opened alot of peoples eyes to what real combat actually was.

We understand you are the founder/owner/head coach at 360-bjj and you have various students under you whom you train on a daily basis, with the day in and day out operations of your academy and your passion for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu , How would your students describe you as a coach/teacher to other people looking to learn from you?

Scott Huston:

I think my students would describe me as being passionate about BJJ and the way that I teach it. BJJ has done so many great things for me and I feel blessed to have the ability to teach my students.  It is really important to me that my students do the little things right ( details ) so I would say that they might think I am a little anal ( haha ), but they know that I only want them to be the best they can, both on and off the mat.

JiuJitsuSweep:

Well Scott, it sounds like you have passion for the sport , like ourselves we are looking to bring the sport of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu into the mainstream in any way possible. With the popularity of mixed martial arts and it’s roots in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu , we hope to be able to expand into a more broader audience and yourself Scott, What are you doing to promote Jiu Jitsu to a broader/mainstream audience?

Scott Huston :

I will sometimes do free seminars for local health clubs or medical college students.  It does not take that much to organize a free seminar for some people that may not ever be exposed to such a great Art like BJJ. There is more to it than just the self defense and this is the message that I try to get across. BJJ can positively impact all aspects of your life if you let it. Whether you are doing it to become a champion or for self improvement BJJ will hold you accountable in many different ways.

JiuJitsuSweep:

We couldn’t agree with you more Scott!

With your credentials, and being a Comprido brown belt , with all of your impressive accomplishments we would like to know do you have Any plans to expand your academy ?

Scott Huston:

This May the Academy will be two years old and things have gone really well thus far. You can’t control who comes through your doors at the Academy but it is very important to keep the right people here. We have a really close group of guys and girls that are focused 100% on clean and technical BJJ. I am always more concerned about the quality of BJJ we are teaching and the quality of people that become part of our team as opposed to the numbers.  We are just now reaching the point where I would feel comfortable with some of my students teaching our system at another location so we’ll see  what the future holds.

JiuJitsuSweep:

Well it sounds like we will be hearing alot more  from your academy, 360-bjj in the future! Continued success to you , your family , and your academy , Scott!

We would like to thank you for taking the time to talk with us and we hope to hear from you again real soon.
