Sandro ” Batata ” Santiago was the first black belt ranked under the King Of The Half Guard, Roberto ” Gordo ” Correa from the world renowned Gracie Barra in Rio de Janeiro and has been training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for well over 19 years. Participating in the largest and most well respected Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competition organizations , Sandro ” Batata ” Santiago leaves nothing to the imagination, if anyone has had the pleasure of witnessing Batata compete, with his aggressive style of Jiu Jitsu , no other reaction can best describe Batatas style besides amazement.
Throughout his years of competing, Sandro Batata has racked up many wins including;

For those who don’t speak or understand Portuguese, his nickname as a child was Batata or ” Potato ” , and years later it stuck with him. Later in life it would be his calling card , his fingerprint for success in the world of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and now the name Batata is synonymous with clean techniques and an aggressive style of grappling leading to medals and championships the world over.
With his wrestling training at Stanford University under the guidance of Coach Chris Horpel, Sandro Batata BJJ has the complete grappling program to best suit your Brazilian Jiu Jitsu game. As head instructor and owner , Sandro Batata BJJ is quickly becoming a sought after Jiu Jitsu academy and coach in the Santa Cruz and San Jose area.
Assistant to Sandro Santiago , coach Julio Echeverria also a black belt , sporting an impressive competition record in his own right, assists in teaching fundamentals and advanced techniques to students of the academy.
