Fomer UFC/MMA Fighter & BJJ Black Belt Hermes Franca Sentenced to 42 Months In Prison

Former UFC fighter & Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt Hermes Franca, once a contender to the lightweight title , was sentenced to 42 months in the Clackamas County Oregon penitentiary for a sexual assault on an underage student. According to  The Oregonian Newspaper the 37 year old former fighter pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful sexual penetration. He was arraigned this past May on seven counts of 1st degree sexual abuse and two counts of second-degree unlawful sexual penetration but as part of his plea agreement the remaining charges were dismissed.

Once Franca gets released from serving his prison sentence he will have to register as a sex offender and will also have 4.5 years  of post-prison supervision . Maximum Fighting Championship had signed a deal with the convicted sex offender, but had since released him following the guilty plea.

Hermes Franca had once been a part of American Top Team years ago and had moved onto joining The Armory as part of his fight training program , but had since moved on.  The MMA fighter holds a 22-12 fight record in mixed martial arts, and we suspect his fight career may be in jeopardy following his release from prison. While we hope he can get his life back on track and continue to pursue a fight career, following a lengthy prison sentence and having so much time away from the cage, it may be difficult to bounce back from such an event but we wish him the best in whatever he does.
